Introduction
HISTORYAndré Chamson, Director General of the Archives de France, made the choice to establish an Overseas Territories Archives Department in Aix-en-Provence at the time when the decolonisations were being completed and a university centre was being built in Aix-en-Provence. As the heir to more than three centuries of history, the Archives Nationales d'Outre-Mer keeps two large collections with different administrative and archive pasts:
To these are added private and company archives relating to the Overseas Territories as well as a specialised library, map library and image library. |
