Pierre Savorgnan de Brazza

1852-1905

After the debacle in 1871 Brazza, an aristocratic naval officer, was the incarnation of the elegant, disinterested hero, always at the service of the greatness of France in exotic, far-off countries. It is Brazza the African, the liberator of slaves, the knight of peace, civilisation and anti-slavery. This explorer, the peaceful conqueror, was at the origin of the French Congo.
The Archives Nationales d'Outre-Mer also offers a work on the same theme in its (Histoires d'Outre-Mer) Overseas Territories Histories collection.
