FRENCH COLONIAL EMPIRES
West AfricaFrench West Africa, created by the Decree of 16 June 1895, brought together the following territories: Senegal, French Sudan (Mali), French Guinea, Ivory Coast, Dahomey, Upper Volta and Mauritania. In 1958, the territories making up French West Africa became members of the Community apart from Guinea which proclaimed its independence immediately. In 1960 the seven other republics acceded to independence. The archives of the General Government of French West Africa and then of the High Commission are kept in Dakar in the Senegal National Archives. A large part of them have been microfilmed and can be consulted at the ANOM. |
